The most common problem that I see with sequels as a reader is the fact that at some point a lot of them seem to lose the fire of the first book. At some point, the story begins to feel less like a compelling tale and more like a collection of characters from another book dithering about while things happen around them. I am happy to report that Origins of the Risen: Destiny Rises (Nubara Book 2) does not fall victim to this trap.
This book does a standup job of taking the outcome of the previous book and turning it into new adventures for the second. Nothing about this book feels like a rehash of the old one, and it was for that very reason that I found myself enjoying it. Assuming you’ve read the first, we now know that our crew of heroes are linked by the blood of the Nubara. So, let’s start by saying that blood bonds are always cool, particularly when they come from an ancient race of beings.
Our characters find themselves splitting up, forming new alliances, and meeting new people while they try to stop the Princess of Nubara from doing things that would likely be bad for… well, everyone.
There are battles. There are fun new character additions. And, more importantly, there is a hot magician.
If you’re looking for a fun and fanciful sequel, you won’t be disappointed.
Get out there and give it a try!
